The Great Blogger Bake Off Episode Six: European Cakes

This week for The Great Blogger Bake Off, we're making European cakes. When I first found that out, I was a bit worried; I don't even know which cakes are European. So, after a quick search, I found out that marble cake is European. I'm not sure where in Europe though, Wikipedia said it's Danish, another website said it was German, but I don't care, I had my European cake (at 10pm last night.) It's actually really easy to make, I got my recipe from BBC Good Food.

You will need:
225g self-raising flour
225g caster sugar
225g softened butter
4 eggs
3 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Greaseproof paper

1. Preheat oven to gas mark 4/180C.

2. Beat the butter and sugar together, then add the eggs one by one, mixing well in between each addition. Then add the flour, vanilla extract and milk, and fold through until combined. Whisk until smooth.

3. Divide the mixture between two bowls, put the cocoa powder into one bowl and mix that in. Take two spoons, and add a spoonful of each mixture one at a time to a tin lined with the greaseproof paper.

4. When all the mixtures are in, swirl a knife around it to make a marble effect. Place in the oven for 55 minutes (or until you can pass the knife test) and then leave to cool.

And there you have it, easy marble cake. Don't forget, you can join in The Great Blogger Bake Off by using the hashtag #thegreatbloggerbakeoff. Next week is pastry week, hooray!

  2. That looks like it turned out really well! I attempted it once but ended up with both batters just totally mixing together which kinda ruined the point haha xx
